Why we do LifeGroups

LifeGroups are an extension of the local church just as the local church is an extension of the universal church. Jesus, himself, gathered around Him a small group of men who would later transform the world. At its core, a life group is simply a gathering of Spirit-indwelt people who have intentional, growing relationships with the Lord and each other, and they use these relationships to help fulfill Christ’s mission for the church.

At Journey, life groups have developed in a variety of ways. Some life groups have developed casually through individuals serving together: cleaning crew, worship team. Other LifeGroups have developed with more intention: Coffee House Conversations, Home-based LifeGroups, Leadership Team. However they have developed, LifeGroups are essential to sustaining a healthy, growing church.

LifeGroups are a result of living life together. The advantages that come with a LifeGroup are:

  • The Body, the Church, heals itself as it is fitted together in community (Eph 4:11-16)

  • Grace is administered in various forms (1 Pet 4:10)

  • People are spurred on to love and good deeds (Heb 10:23-25)

  • Non-believers see a picture of Christ, and as a result, more people are attracted to Jesus (Jn 17:20-23)

In our LifeGroups there are three elements that we intentionally try to include: Connecting People, Changing Lives, Cultivating the Kingdom.
